I was given a chance to introduce myself in front of FleishmanHillard Manila's employees last Wednesday during our huddle. It was so fun, especially I got to know more about my co-interns from various departments. It has been 3 months already since I started working as their Finance Intern. And guess what? I was offered to be extended! 🤩 I grabbed the opportunity right away because I believe that my stay as a Finance Intern really exposed me to accounting workloads. Plus, I'm having fun working under the finance team (they're definitely a vibe!).Here are my takeaways as to why I'm happy to extend my internship with my FleishmanHillard family:✨ I was able to learn more about internal auditing, taxes, and financial reporting. 😎 My supervisors are really hands-on to me and they ensure that I learn from them. Within my 3-month internship, I learn a lot about accounting in corporate. 🧐 My team allows me to make mistakes!! And I definitely apply the corrections immediately. So, if you want to become their intern and experience what I experienced too, don't hesitate to check their LinkedIn and Instagram accounts. #internship#FleishmanHillardManila#finance

Get to know Yajing (Teresa) Yu, an intern on our Transactions team in Atlanta:What are you most excited about working on or learning at FTI Consulting? Teresa: I'm eager to dive into observing and contributing to a deal's lifecycle. Witnessing how our team consolidates data, analyzes financial statements and generates reports is a prime opportunity for learning. Observing my Orientation Advisor, Coach and fellow team members using various Excel functions to refine financials further facilitates my learning process. How would you describe FTI Consulting in three words?Teresa: Inclusive. Professional. Efficient. What inspired you to pursue your current field of study? Teresa: My journey into finance and accounting began during my internship at EY, where I worked on an ERP implementation project. That experience made me realize that accounting is the most commonly used and efficient language in any business setting. I'm driven by a desire to understand how financial statements work, how to interpret them accurately and extract vital information to draw implications for business operations and management. Pursuing dual degrees in finance and accounting prepares me for the technical roles I aspire to have in the future. What is the best place you have traveled to?Teresa: When it comes to travel, I can't choose between Shanghai, China and Monteverde, Costa Rica. Shanghai's charming streets lined with vintage shops and stylish coffee stores captivated me. Not to mention, Shanghai boasts some of the best food and hidden top 10 cocktail bars in the world, tucked away in elegant, aged buildings. Meanwhile, Monteverde offered me exhilarating nature experiences, from adrenaline-pumping whitewater rafting to the awe-inspiring feeling of ziplining through lush green mountains, like flying into a sea of greenery. These experiences not only enriched my life but also shaped my perspective, fueling my passion for exploration and discovery. As I embark on this journey with #TeamFTI, I look forward to contributing my skills and enthusiasm to our shared success.#FTIConsultingIntern #Internship

Please meet Guo Juchen, an intern with our Corporate Finance practice in Japan. We recently had a chat with him to learn about his experience here:◼️ Why did you choose to intern at FTI Consulting?I went to the University of Richmond, which is located close to FTI’s headquarters in Washington DC, so I was familiar with FTI Consulting. A university colleague had interned at FTI and spoke highly of the company. This made me choose FTI for my internship, among several other options. The Human Resources team have been really helpful offering a great experience during the entire interview and onboarding process. (Thank you to the Asia HR team!) ◼️ What has been your favorite part about interning at FTI Consulting? In FTI Asia, all the offices are connected and work on projects collaboratively, which allows me to maximise my language skills in English, Japanese, and Chinese.◼️ What is something you didn’t know about FTI Consulting prior to joining?I have been handling more responsibilities than expected because the Tokyo team is still in growth phase, allowing me to be exposed to new and different areas. I receive tasks directly from both the Managing Directors and Directors, and have to manage my time well to complete tasks before their deadlines. Meanwhile, the feedback I have been given are very helpful and insightful, which encourage me to think more critically and improve my business skills. ◼️ If you had to watch one movie on repeat, what would it be?菊次郎の夏 Kikujiro’s Summer#InternSpotlight #TeamFTI

Pros and cons of internshipsPros:1) You'll be exposed to the real work settings at an organisation2) You'll get a headstart in terms of building up your resume prior to starting your career full-time3) It will help train up the skills of managing subordinates by those who are already working full-time for a number of years4) You'll get to manage relationships with your relevant stakeholders and build up communication skills.Cons:1) Interns are not protected by any labour laws in Malaysia, which means that interns employed can be UNPAID (as good as hiring slaves). The only little bright spot here is that at least 70% of internships are paid rather than unpaid (but still, it's just immoral to not pay any allowance to these interns for the effort put in based on the job scope given). So please choose your internship placements wisely and brush up on your interview skills.2) Some interns can be unlucky if they're doing purely administrative work (e.g. photocopying, data entry, make coffee, etc.) throughout their internships at various organisations, which may stunt their development and count against them when they go into the workforce full-time.3) Also a source of depressed wages or salaries in Malaysia especially if interns are being squeezed to do job scopes that usually fall upon full-time employees for way lower pay (no, in fact interns if paid are in the form of allowances), which will be a cause of unfairness and inequity. It's really disheartening to see that certain people glorified their times as UNPAID INTERNS in the past as if it's a badge of honour, without even realising that these are the kinds of labour that some employers would LOVE TO HAVE (contributing to the company's revenue while not paying a single cent to those interns). Yes, there's no doubt the experience gained would have shaped them further down the line, but to normalise UNPAID INTERNSHIPS is a huge NO NO and a red flag to indicate that such employers aren't desirable in today's labour market given such practices (legally not wrong but morally so wrong on many levels).I really hope that interns can eventually be protected under the relevant labour laws in our country and ensure that it extracts the most of its value not just for interns, but also for employers.
